Building "off-grid"

- Sill Plates -

Christmas 2004:  The sill plate is treated wood placed around the entire perimeter on top of the concrete block as the first wooden 'foundation' for next level of the home or garage.  In my case, it will be for the ceiling of the garage/floor of the home.  In most homes the next framing would be floor joists, but because of the longer span I chose (24' from outside to beam separating the two halves of the garage/shop), I'll need to use either I-beam joists or floor trusses.

Cost:  $120.00 for (10) treated 8 x 10's (12' long), nails and sill seal (a foam underlayment to protect against moisture seepage).
