Gas-powered Electricity
A gas, diesel or propane generator was suggested as a backup source for my off-grid system. This is a Honda/Onan 4oke, 11 HP, 5000 watt generator I came across at a local "Menard's" (similar to Home Depot or Lowe's). It was on a pallet in a return area for warranty work (a gas spigot was broken), and the kid working in the area had no idea how much to charge me, so he guessed.
Cost: I ended up paying $200 for a barely used, $1000 generator with a 1-year warranty. It has a 30 amp plug-in so I can plug my RV directly into it for the time being. It's a breeze to operate and works great.
